Getting a handle on social enterprise and social investment – call for evidence

1-not-an-arm‘Social enterprise’ is the new must-have brand for voluntary agencies wanting to prosper under the Coalition government and ’social investment’ is all the rage, held out as the antidote to austerity. But these are slippery ideas and promoted by a Government that is hell bent on cutting public services, contracting out what is left and leaving the ‘Big Society’ to fill any gaps left in the process. As a contribution to our Inquiry into the Future of Voluntary Services, we are preparing a critical position paper on the issues involved and we are calling for evidence to help us with this task.

A brief description of the background is available to download here, which also lists some of the issues and questions that we hope to address. If you have views and experiences to offer we want to hear from you. Please contact Les Huckfield who is preparing the position paper – les@huckfield.com

    Hi Andy
This sounds really interesting, and for me links to the discussions NCIA are having about the role of CVSs. For a number of years my organisation (Dudley CVS) has been struggling with the grey area in your diagram in terms of where we draw the line regarding our support.
Though I’m not sure I have anything to contribute to the development of the position paper, I look forward to updates on it and potentially having some debate around the issues and evidence it will include.
