Campaign: supporting activism

Supporting activism cartoon

We want to encourage independent action that benefits local people.

This could be action to improve services for older people, campaigns to resist cuts to local services or anything else that local activists have identified as necessary in their area.

We are finding out what support local activists want and what is currently provided. We will use this information to show how social action and change is supported, or not, by support services (such as councils for voluntary services or community organisers). We will promote our findings so that relevant support is available.

What we are doing

  • Talking to our local contacts, and finding others, who provide practical help to local activists
  • Finding out what they do, how they do it and with what results
  • Talking to some of the activists about what resources they use – what works and what’s missing
  • Discussing the results and using them so that better help is available locally

The amount of work, particularly the number of people to talk to and areas to cover, will depend on how much time people are able to donate.
